Wildfire near Kitt Peak doubles in size to 2,000 acres

Arizona Daily Star
Tucson, Arizona | Published: 05.11.2008
The Solano Fire in the Baboquivari Mountains expanded to 2,000 acres by Sunday morning, a state forestry official said.
The fire started Friday about seven miles south of Kitt Peak on the Tohono O’odham Indian Reservation and was burning mostly on Bureau of Land Management land near the Baboquivari Wilderness Area.
Because of the lack of water in the area, state forestry officials are using air tankers to drop water directly on the fire in an attempt to arrest its growth, said Bill Watt, a spokesman for the Arizona Division of Forestry.
