LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — A sheriff in northern Arkansas says federal agents have raided a poultry plant over suspected immigration violations.
Independence County Sheriff Keith Bowers tells The Associated Press the raid at the Pilgrim’s Pride poultry plant in Batesville began at 6 a.m. Wednesday.
Bowers says the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have not given him details on the purpose of the raid.
The sheriff says he and five deputies provided security at the plant’s gates and left after about two hours.
An official of the immigration agency has not returned a call seeking comment.
