Tucson police helped evacuate several people in a neighborhood near East Grant Road between North First and North Campbell avenues after getting reports of a gas leak at 9:24 a.m., an official said.
Several people were evacuated from their home after an excavation crew broke a two-inch gas line, said Deputy Chief Paul McDonough, a spokesman for the Tucson Fire Department. They were allowed to return to their homes by 10:15 a.m. after the line was secured, McDonough said.
Traffic on East Grant Road wasn't affected but travel East Edison Street was restricted as Southwest Gas workers fixed the broken line, McDonough said.
No one was injured, McDonough said.
