Cochise County deputies find 907 pounds of dope in traffic stop

A traffic stop north of Elfrida, which southeast of Tucson, ended with the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office seizing 907 pounds of marijuana Thursday afternoon, according to a press release.
A Cochise County sheriff’s deputy stopped a semi tractor trailer driven Gabriel Garcia Martinez, 38, on Highway 191 because his vehicle registration had expired, according to the release.
After further investigation, authorities found about 907 pounds of marijuana in the sleeper compartment of the truck. Martinez, a Mexican national with a valid border-crossing visa, was charged with possession of marijuana and transportation of marijuana.
The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office is continuing the investigation.
