One day after University of Arizona president Robert Shelton said he had no plans to fire football coach Mike Stoops or athletic director Jim Livengood, Stoops sounded content.
“I wasn’t planning on anything else,” he said this morning.
Stoops said the football program was in better shape than it was when he got here, and that he sees improvement in his players.
“If the president felt like he needed to say that, then I’m happy — and plan on being here a lot longer than a year’s period of time, that’s for sure,” he said.
Stoops said he did not expect the declaration to effect recruiting. Teams are going to plant the seed of doubt in recruits’ heads anyway, he said.
“Everybody’s going to negative recruit you anyhow, so you just deal with it,” he said. “I’m not worried about what other people say.”
