House approves creation of Southern Arizona heritage area

WASHINGTON – The U.S. House has approved a bill that would create new national heritage areas in several states, including Arizona.
The measure includes the proposed Santa Cruz Valley National Heritage Area, which would cover roughly 3,300 square miles in southern Arizona. It would run east of the Tucson Mountains and west of the Rincon Mountains, stretching from the Pinal County line to the U.S.-Mexico border.
Representative Raul Grijalva, who sponsored the bill, says the legislation will ''maintain the Santa Cruz Valley through education, preservation and promotion of its unique resources.''
