A 13-year-old boy driving a stolen pickup truck was arrested Thursday night after he tried to flee from police and smashed into a sport utility vehicle at a Downtown intersection, an official said.
No one was seriously injured in the collision , said Sgt. Mark Robinson, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.
Robinson did not know if the boy stole the truck, but police did find a firearm in it.
Police are withholding the boy’s name because he’s a minor, Robinson said.
Officers in the auto-theft task force who were driving unmarked vehicles spotted the boy driving the stolen Ford F-150 about 8:30 p.m. and contacted a uniformed patrol officer to make a traffic stop, Robinson said.
The officer tried to stop the truck on Second Street near North Stone Avenue, but the truck accelerated into the intersection and slammed into a Dodge Dakota, Robinson said.
No one in the Dakota was seriously hurt.
The two occupants of the Ford F-150 then fled on foot. The 13-year-old boy driving the stolen pickup was later caught and arrested.
Police continued to search for the truck’s passenger through the night.
