Veteran legislator explores candidacy for Mitchell's congressional seatTucson, Arizona | Published: 08.28.2007
PHOENIX - Veteran state legislator Mark Anderson is exploring a possible candidacy for the 5th Congressional District seat now held by first-term Democrat Harry Mitchell.
A legislator since 1995, Anderson is a Mesa Republican who served two years in the Senate between his first and current stints in the House.
Anderson says he expects a crowded Republican field to run for the nomination to face Mitchell, who won the seat by defeating then-incumbent J.D. Hayworth, a Republican.
Anderson says he "more than likely" will finish his legislative term even if he decides to run for Congress.
The congressional district is centered on Tempe and Scottsdale.
