Man hit by car Tuesday night dies in surgery

A Sells man died in surgery after he was hit by a car on the East Side Tuesday night, an official said. Bennett C. Antone, 47, was walking along East Speedway Boulevard about 9:40 p.m. when he crossed North Wilmot Road and was struck by a northbound 2001 Toyota Echo, said Officer Frank Amado, a Tucson Police Department spokesman. He was taken to University Medical Center where he died from his injuries. The Toyota Echo had the green light when it struck Antone, according to police. The investigation is ongoing and no citations have been issued.
