Tucson-based Miraval Life In Balance is expanding to New York City and Costa Rica with two new projects. Beginning in early 2008, wealthy New Yorkers wanting a slice of the spa life can move into a Miraval living community touting spa, fitness, nutrition and wellness programs. The project "Miraval Living," a highrise featuring 365 apartments on New York's Upper East Side, is the first Miraval residential development. John Vanderslice, CEO for Miraval, said the company plans to open 10 to 15 similar residential developments in cities including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Miami and Washington D.C. Prices for the New York apartments start at $650,000 and range up to $2.8 million. The wellness company is also expanding to the northwest coast of Costa Rica with a 140-room property which will also open in 2008. Located in the province of Guanacaste, Miraval Life in Balance, Costa Rica will be the first property outside of the Tucson area, said Barbara McDonald, a spokeswoman for Miraval.
