PHOENIX - The statewide voter registration has swelled to more than
2.5 million and has increased by some 35,000 since last month's primary
election, the Secretary of State's Office announced Tuesday.
Secretary of State Jan Brewer said as of the Oct. 9 deadline to register
for the Nov. 7 general election, Arizona's voter registration was at
2,568,401 _ an increase of 35,093 voters since the Sept. 12 primary.
Statistics show that there are 1,014,690 registered Republicans in
Arizona, 854,228 registered Democrats, 17,446 registered Libertarians
and 682,037 voters registered as Independents or members of unrecognized
parties.
Those figures represent an increase of 10,713 Republicans, 6,738
Democrats, 917 Libertarians and 16,725 Independents and other voters
since the primary.
Brewer said the registration increases can be attributed to "close
candidate races, many varied ballot propositions and keen interest in
local races."
