PHOENIX – Arizona voters have begun to make up their minds about who they want in the U.S. Senate.

And it doesn't look good for Democratic challenger Jim Pederson.

A poll released by Channel 8 and the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communications at Arizona State University shows Republican incumbent Jon Kyl has held his lead over Pederson.

At the same time the pool of undecided voters has shrunk.

Kyl received 49 percent of 882 likely voters surveyed between September 21st to the 24th.

Pederson received 38 percent and Libertarian Richard Mack got 2 percent.

The poll has a 3 percent margin of error.

Pederson tells The Associated Press his campaign's internal polls show Kyl has a much narrower lead.

In the race for governor, a statewide poll shows Democratic Gov. Janet Napolitano with a 2-to-1 lead over Republican challenger Len Munsil.

The Channel 8 – ASU poll shows Napolitano making deep inroads among Republican voters and attracting support from the vast majority of independents surveyed.

Napolitano leads Munsil 64 percent to 28 percent, with Libertarian Barry Hess receiving 2 percent. Six percent remain undecided.
