Marana
Sonoran Preserve area to host Parade of Homes
The 2008 Southern Arizona Home Builders Association Parade of Homes begins Saturday, with Marana neighborhood Sonoran Preserve on the Bajada serving as host for the event that runs through Feb. 17.
Seven custom homes in the neighborhood, along North Dove Mountain Boulevard, will be showcased daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Each house was constructed by a different builder.
Admission is $12 for adults and $10 for seniors age 50 and older. Children 12 and younger get in for free.

Learn CPR, first aid
The Northwest Fire/Rescue District is offering CPR and first-aid classes.
The next session of classes includes a basic first-aid class and a basic CPR class, both from 6 to 10 p.m. Feb. 7; and a CPR class for health-care providers, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 9.
The basic CPR and first-aid classes are $20 for Northwest Fire/Rescue District residents, $25 for non-residents. The Health Care Provider CPR class is $25 for district residents and $30 for non-residents.
All classes will be held at Fire Station 30, 1520 W. Orange Grove Road.

Vendor application date extended for arts fair
The deadline to submit vendor applications for the Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Festival has been extended to Feb. 29.
The festival is scheduled for March 29 and 30 at the Pima Community College Northwest Campus.
The outdoor festival will include more than 150 fine-arts tents and craft booths, and feature music, dance and cuisine from around the world. Student art demonstrations and live performances will be highlighted in this inaugural event.
The Greater Oro Valley Arts Council and PCC plan to hold the festival every year.

AARP volunteers offer tax-preparation help
From next week through April 15, volunteers with AARP will provide tax-preparation assistance at two Northwest Side public libraries.
The service is for low- and middle-income people and pays special attention to those older than 60.
The two locations and tax help schedules are:
● 1 to 4 p.m. Thursdays at the Oro Valley Public Library, 1305 W. Naranja Drive, 229-5300.
● Noon to 4 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays at the Nanini Branch Library, 7300 N. Shannon Road, 791-4626.
Oro Valley
Public meeting set on intersection work
Oro Valley residents next week will have a chance to review and comment on the town's improvement plan for the intersection of North La Cholla Boulevard and West Glover Road.
A public meeting to discuss the project will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Town Hall, 11000 N. La Cañada Road.
The work, which town officials said will begin in May, includes installation of a traffic light with north and south left-turn lanes on La Cholla, and a right-turn lane on the east side of Glover turning north on La Cholla.

Registration under way for Great Decisions series
This year's Great Decisions weekly discussion group will focus on foreign policy and world affairs beginning Feb. 12 at the Oro Valley Public Library, 1305 W. Naranja Drive.
The eight-week series runs from 4 to 6 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday through April 3.
To keep the program small, participants may attend either Tuesday or Thursday night sessions.
The program is free, but there is a $15 fee for those who want their own program booklet. Registration is required and space is limited.

State agency plans session on sewer rates
The Arizona Corporation Commission will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday in San Manuel to take public comment on sewer rates established by Coronado Utilities Inc.
The meeting will be in the auditorium at San Manuel Junior-Senior High School, 711 McNab Parkway.
