People wishing to comment on the proposed Rosemont mine in the Santa Rita Mountains now have a telephone outlet for their views.
The U.S. Forest Service has set up a toll-free phone line at 1-888-726-7176 for comments. Calls of up to three minutes will be accepted indefinitely, although the service says they'll be useful if made before the agency starts on its Environmental Impact Statement on July 14.
These comments may be made public and each caller's telephone number will be electronically documented by the service's automated recording system, the agency says. The service promises that telephone calls will get equal consideration from the service with comments made at public hearings or submitted in writing.
A public meeting is set for Monday at the Rincon High School auditorium, 422 N. Arcadia Ave., for comments.
Speakers will be allowed three minutes and will be required to sign in between 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. The hearing is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
Comments will be recorded and entered into the Environmental Impact Statement on the mine proposal.
Comments also can be submitted to the Forest Service by mail, fax or e-mail.
