It might have been just a little warm outside, but that didn't bother music lovers Saturday at La Encantada.
The Greater Oro Valley Arts Council kicked off its Summer Concert Series at the shopping center with country music by Jack Bishop and cowboy poetry with Bud Strom.
People danced in the courtyard in front of the Apple Store as shoppers walked by, bags in hand. Around 150 people attended the concert, estimated Kate Marquez, executive director of the arts council.
"There's really a cultural aspect we've tied into this. We really focus on the local talent and supporting local arts," she said.
In addition to the music and poetry, the evening included an auction of paintings from local artists along with Arizona Diamondbacks tickets, among other items.
"It's just going to gain in popularity," Marquez said of the concert series. "We hope to do this for years to come."
The series continues July 19 at La Encantada, 2905 E. Skyline Drive, with the band Sunday Afternoon, which, according to a press release, is "pop rock meets melodic alternative."
The Bryan Dean Trio will perform blues, jazz and rock Aug. 9, and Aug. 23 will be Flamenco Night. Tickets cost $7 in advance and $10 at the door.
