The long road to finding a home got shorter Saturday for countless greyhounds.
Arizona Greyhound Rescue held its first foster training class at the Udall Center, 7200 E. Tanque Verde Road, for a group of about 15 people.
The class included do's and don'ts, a description of the breed's temperament and advice for prospective fosterers.
"Greyhounds are so different than every other breed of dogs," said Julia Summers, outreach director with Arizona Greyhound Rescue.
The foster program provides a transition for the mellow and "extremely loving" dogs between the rescue group and the dogs' final homes.
A central idea of the training was to break the misconception of greyhounds as hyper dogs.
"They're the 45-mile-per-hour couch potato," Summers said.
The rescue group plans to have another class in the fall or possibly before that. For more information, contact Mary Freeman, the organization's president, at 886-7411.
