Eating heart-healthy snacks during the Super Bowl isn't a bad idea.
Hey, heart-healthy snacks are a good idea just about any time.
Here are a few suggestions:
● Bruschetta, or toasted slices of French bread with toppings, is one of the best options. Serve a basket with bread slices and several toppings for people to choose from. These can include chopped, vine-ripe tomatoes with a little fresh basil, garlic and olive oil, or roasted, puréed eggplant with olive oil, garlic and lemon, hummus, or a dark tapenade of olives and anchovies.
● Fresh fruit plate, cheese. If your crowd needs their cheese, put out a pepper-dusted chèvre, Humboldt Fog or another choice on a plate, with a basket of crackers on the side. Surround the cheese with tempting slices of Asian pear, mango, pineapple, kiwi and tart green apple and red raspberries.
● Hot soup or chili in mugs. Both of these options can be low in fat, hearty and satisfying.
● Make or buy a vegetarian paté, like the mushroom paté featured here.
