The Desert Diamond Casino, 7350 S. Nogales Highway, is celebrating the grand opening of its 150-room hotel and 8,000-square-foot conference center this week. But the real excitement is over at the casino's new Monsoon nightclub, where Grooveline will do its best to create a disco inferno on Friday night.
Polish your platform shoes and take a pick to your Afro because Grooveline is a San Francisco-based cover band that plays hits from the musical decade America longs to forget. The retro madness will begin at 8 p.m. The cover is $5.
On Saturday night, local '80s pop tribute band The Mockingbirds will play Monsoon.
The band, which also plays every Thursday night at O'Malley's on Fourth, covers songs like Devo's "Whip It," Journey's "Any Way You Want It" and John Mellencamp's "Hurts So Good." There's no cover charge for the 8 p.m. show at Monsoon.
Desert Diamond Casino on South Nogales Highway is a mile south of Valencia Road.
