For three years running, University High School has made Newsweek's list of elite public schools.
The current issue of Newsweek magazine includes the Tucson Unified School District school in its list of the best high schools in the nation.
Like previous years, University High, on the campus of Rincon High School, 421 N. Arcadia Ave., was excluded from the general list of excelling public schools partially because its students must pass an entrance exam.
University High, along with 20 other schools in the country, also was excluded from the general list because so many of its students score well above the average on the SAT and ACT, according to Newsweek.
There are 706 students at University High, according to TUSD's most recent enrollment count. The school has a curriculum geared toward college preparation.
This year's Newsweek list ranks BASIS' high school, 3434 E. Broadway, as the top public high school in the nation.
