SAHUARITA
1 Suspicious activity was reported at 8:55 a.m. Dec. 23 in the 3600 block of West Calle Paso Suave. A police officer found two men removing saguaros near power lines by the side of the road. The Civano Nursery employees had a permit from the Arizona Department of Agriculture. According to the report, the permit allows the nursery to remove native plants within 100 feet of power lines owned by Tucson Electric Power. No one was cited.
2A possible fire was reported at 3:55 p.m. Dec. 21 in the 14900 block of South Camino Rio Puerco. A police officer found smoke coming from burning trash in the backyard. The owner was watching the fire and said he was getting rid of excess materials. The officer told him he could not burn trash without a permit and needed to extinguish the fire. He was not cited.
3A 1995 Kia was reported stolen at 10:24 p.m. Dec. 20 at One Stop Market, 16000 S. Nogales Highway. The owner told police the car was stolen between 2:30 p.m. and 10:18 p.m. The store owner told police the car had been parked in the lot for three days and she called a tow truck to haul it away. The car owner was upset and insisted the car had been in the lot for about eight hours. The police told her the situation was a civil matter and she would have to talk to the store owner.
4Larceny was reported at 11:02 p.m. Dec. 12 in the 15100 block of South Avenida Rancho Largo. A resident told police the following: He heard a noise in his front yard at 10:15 p.m. He went outside and saw a vehicle pulling away from his house. He discovered that someone had taken a Santa Claus statue, a reindeer statue and Christmas lights valued at $70 from his yard. He said he followed the vehicle on his bicycle but lost track of it when it left the subdivision.
5Suspicious activity was reported at 5:05 p.m. Dec. 12 at South Nogales Highway and North Abrego Drive. Someone called police about a man on the ground next to his parked car. The man raised his head when a police officer ran up to him. He said he was on his way to go shopping. He told police "I don't play around. When I get tired, I take a nap." He said he had been sleeping since 4:45 p.m. He refused to be evaluated by Green Valley Fire District paramedics and insisted he was all right.
VAIL/CORONA DE TUCSON
6Fraud was reported at 10:23 a.m. Dec. 12 in the 500 block of South Sterling Vista Way. A resident told deputies the following: A credit union employee called her at 8:30 a.m. about suspicious activity on her account. Eight fraudulent charges totalling more than $3,400 had been made within the last several days. At 10 a.m., a US Airways representative called her and asked if she authorized another person to book a flight to Nigeria using her debit card. She told them she had not and cancelled the card.
7An attempted burglary was reported at 4:48 p.m. Dec. 9 in the 2600 block of East Broadview Drive. A resident told deputies someone forced open the side door of his garage and locked his three dogs inside. He told deputies he believes the thieves were going to break into his house but were scared away. According to the report, nothing appeared to be missing.
8Vandalism was reported at 7:44 p.m. Dec. 9 at Cienega High School, 12775 E. Mary Ann Cleveland Way. A woman told deputies she found scratches on her car after a soccer game. According to the report, someone tried to scratch an obscene phrase into the driver's side door. The door handle smelled like urine and there were several scratches underneath it.
