• The Phillies activated third baseman Pedro Feliz from the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday. Feliz, who was battling a bulging disk in his lower back, was placed on the disabled list on July 29.
• The Cardinals decided to plug Adam Wainwright into their rotation instead of as the fill-in closer, and will give him a start on Friday against the Atlanta Braves.
• The Nationals acquired shortstop Anderson Hernandez from New York on Wednesday, completing Sunday's trade that sent right-hander Luis Ayala to the Mets.
• Cardinals pitcher Kyle Lohse was suspended five games Wednesday for throwing a fastball past the head of Cincinnati pitcher Edinson Volquez last weekend. Lohse appealed the penalty, and can continue to play until a hearing is held.
• Tests show Braves pitcher Tom Glavine has no ligament damage in his left elbow, leaving open the possibility he could return next season. As expected, the test showed the 42-year-old Glavine has a partial tear in the flexor tendon in his left elbow.
• Infielder Jerry Hairston Jr. went on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with a strained right hamstring, costing the Cincinnati Reds one of their most effective leadoff hitters.
• The Rockies placed reliever Matt Herges on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday because of lower back stiffness. The Rockies recalled Ryan Speier from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
• The Mets agreed with right-hander Al Reyes on a minor-league contract Wednesday. Reyes closed games for Tampa Bay last year, earning a career-high 26 saves in 30 chances.
