• The Dodgers have reacquired pitcher Greg Maddux and received cash from San Diego. The Padres will get two minor-league players to be named or cash. Maddux is 6-9 with a 3.99 ERA this season, and has 353 career wins. His record with last-place San Diego this season includes 11 no-decisions. "It's very rare that you get the opportunity to add a pitcher like Greg even one time, let alone twice," general manager Ned Colletti said in a statement. "He's one of the greatest pitchers of all time and we've already seen what he can add to a team, both on the field and in the clubhouse."
• Billy Wagner has more pain and swelling in his pitching elbow, and the New York Mets All-Star closer is out indefinitely. Wagner had an MRI exam Tuesday that revealed additional inflammation in his left elbow — an alarming sign. The NL East leaders don't know when Wagner might be able to return to the mound.
• Cincinnati right-hander Matt Belisle is done for the season after having surgery on his right knee. Belisle had a torn ligament repaired Tuesday, his second major injury of the season.
• Milwaukee outfielder Ryan Braun was not in the starting lineup Tuesday night against the Houston Astros because of tightness in his lower back. Braun missed six games last week with the same injury. On Monday, he appeared to be in pain after swinging and missing in his final at-bat in the sixth.
• Atlanta placed infielder Ruben Gotay on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a strained left hamstring and recalled left-hander Jo-Jo Reyes from Triple-A Richmond.
• San Diego activated right-handed pitcher Brett Tomko from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday.
