● Rangers 16, Astros 8: In Arlington, Texas, Josh Hamilton went 5 for 5 with two long homers and five RBIs, and Texas beat Houston in a wild Lone Star Series opener.
Hamilton's second homer, a three-run shot, hit off the facade of the second deck of seats in right field and gave Texas an 8-2 lead in the fourth.
● White Sox 2, Giants 0: In San Francisco, Alexei Ramirez hit his first major-league homer, a two-run shot in the seventh inning that proved to be the difference.
San Francisco had a base runner aboard in every inning against White Sox starter Gavin Floyd (4-2), who withstood each threat and allowed just four hits over six innings.
● Padres 6, Mariners 4: In Seattle, Brian Giles had four hits, and Tadahito Iguchi homered for San Diego.
Chris Young (4-3) won for the third time in his last four starts, overcoming his own early struggles and pitching six solid innings.
● Rays 3, Cardinals 1: In St. Louis, Andy Sonnanstine carried a shutout into the eighth inning, and added two singles to a 12-hit outburst that helped the streaking Rays win again.
The Rays are eight games above .500 for the first time ever and have won eight of nine.
● Reds 4, Indians 3: In Cincinnati, Adam Dunn homered and drew a tiebreaking walk with the bases loaded in the eighth inning, sending Cincinnati to its season-high fourth straight win.
The Reds also got a home run from Brandon Phillips.
● Angels 4, Dodgers 2: In Anaheim, Calif., Joe Saunders bounced back from his lone loss of the year, and Vladimir Guerrero drove in two runs without a hit to lead the Angels.
● Braves 3, Athletics 2: In Atlanta, Mark Kotsay knocked in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning with a two-out RBI double, and Atlanta won its eighth straight at home.
● Twins 4, Rockies 2: In Denver, Nick Blackburn pitched seven strong innings, and Delmon Young doubled twice and scored two runs. Clint Barmes had three hits for the Rockies, who have lost six straight and eight of 11.
● Royals 7, Marlins 6: In Miami, Brett Tomko pitched six innings for his first victory in nearly six weeks, and two unearned runs helped Kansas City extend its winning streak to five games.
● Orioles 5, Nationals 3: In Baltimore, Luke Scott homered, Melvin Mora hit a tiebreaking double in the fifth inning, and the Orioles won for the sixth time in seven games.
● Brewers at Red Sox, ppd.: In Boston, the game was postponed because of rain and was rescheduled as the second game of a doubleheader today.
● Mets at Yankees, ppd.: In New York, the Subway Series opener was postponed because of rain. The game likely will be made up in June.

● Cubs 7, Pirates 4: In Chicago, Alfonso Soriano homered in his first two at-bats, Geovany Soto and Mark DeRosa went deep and the surging Cubs beat Pittsburgh for their seventh win in eight games.
