UA students' homework: haul, unpack at 21 dorms

It's that time again.
Vehicles loaded with clothes, electronics and other dorm-room essentials took over the University of Arizona campus Wednesday as roughly 2,000 students moved in for the start of the fall semester.
Though a handful of open beds remain in campus residence halls, they should fill up quickly as students who have been wait-listed are contacted, said Patrick Call, associate director of Residence Life.
In all, the UA expects to have about 6,000 students living on campus by the time classes begin on Monday, UA spokesman Johnny Cruz said.
Though officials won't know for several weeks the exact numbers, the incoming freshman class is expected to be larger than last year's, continuing a growth trend that has pushed overall enrollment past 37,000, Cruz said.
But just as another year at the UA begins to pick up speed, university officials are hoping to slow down the campus — literally. Students, faculty members and others will have to drive more slowly on campus now that officials recently lowered the speed limit on all surface streets.
The drop from 25 mph to 20 mph came after UA police, the Risk Management and Safety Department, and Parking and Transportation Services studied traffic patterns on campus.
Speed limits for parking garages will remain at 15 mph, and restricted vehicle areas will retain a 10 mph limit.
