Lightning struck a building at Rincon/University High Schools, 421 N. Arcadia Blvd., Monday afternoon, a school official said.
Lightning hit the school's Education Building minutes after school administrators moved students away because of worry over lightning in the area. There were no injuries.
Principal Kimberly Babeuhad moved students from the area about 10 minutes before the strike, according to a news release from the Tucson Unified School District.
“Several cinder blocks were blown apart and strewn over the patio,” said Babeu, describing what happened in the release. The lightning hit an elevator near the Education Building, which is in the center of the campus, he said.
Students were at lunch during the lightning strike. The school day continued on its normal schedule.
