John Lennon Birthday Bash tonight
Today would have been the 68th birthday of the late, great songwriter and music legend John Lennon.
In tribute, the Loft Cinema is holding a John Lennon Birthday Bash and Beatles Singalong at 7 tonight. Admission is $5.
There's going to be a Beatles/John and Yoko lookalike contest, subtitled Beatles music and videos, and a showing of the 1988 documentary "Imagine: John Lennon."
There's more info at loftcinema.com.
'Kath & Kim' premieres tonight on NBC
Australia's No. 1 situation comedy, "Kath & Kim," makes the jump to American television with its debut at 7:30 tonight on NBC.
The series follows Kath, a middle-age divorcée whose grown daughter, Kim, moves back in with Mom after leaving her husband.
While the original series takes place in Melbourne, the American version is set in Florida. It stars former "Saturday Night Live" player Molly Shannon as Kath and "Hellboy" starlet Selma Blair as Kim.
Shows such as "Arrested Development" and "Married With Children" have shown us that family dysfunction can be hilarious. We're eager to see how this one plays out.
Bowling and more at Loft's Big WiiBowski
Fans of "The Big Lebowski" will want to buff up their virtual bowling shoes in anticipation of the Loft's "Big WiiBow-ski" event at 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
To celebrate the film's 10th anniversary, the Loft has planned festivities that include "Wii Sports" bowling, pre-screening games with prizes and a costume parade. Moviegoers will be randomly selected to take part in the bowling.
"For maximum WiiBowski enjoyment, I would suggest busting out that ratty bathrobe and wearing it to the theater — washing it first isn't required but appreciated," said Jeff Yanc, the Loft's program director.
"Or getting a gang of friends together and forming your own bowling league for the night. Come to the WiiBowski event in your bowling shirts — maybe you'll be selected to compete in our Wii bowling contest — then head over to Lucky Strike on Speedway to bowl a few late-night frames."
Admission is $5. For a chance to be randomly selected for a pair of tickets, e-mail us at caliente@azstarnet.com by 5 p.m. today. Include your name and phone number.

It's a full day of tours, aircraft displays, music (including the Carnivaleros at 2 p.m.), and more. Events and parking are all free. And you could win tickets to anywhere Southwest Airlines flies.
