Corleone's happy meal

Tucson, Arizona | Published: 03.27.2008
The thought of a $5 Italian meal sounds tempting. And it is. From 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays-Thursdays, diners can get one at Corleone's, 6632 E. Tanque Verde Road.
The $5 plate of food is served from a buffet in the bar area. There's a one-plate maximum. One recent evening featured quality mixed greens with dressing, penne pasta with meat sauce, chicken parmesan, fusilli with pesto sauce and roasted vegetables.
The restaurant's happy hour menu also features a host of appetizers priced $2 or $3 less than they appear on the dinner menu. Try the giant plate of pizza fries ($5) or the caviar and goat cheese chilled pizza ($10).

It can be difficult to tell the difference between a $45 wine and a $90 wine, but Fleming's Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar would like to help.
Fleming's, 6360 N. Campbell Ave., is holding a High-Low Wine Dinner at 6:30 p.m. April 15.
The five-course meal costs $95, plus tax and tip, and will feature a total of eight wines. Two wines will be pitted against each other during the second through fourth courses. Courses include lamb carpaccio and a 49-hour marinated rib-eye.
Call 529-5017 for reservations.

What do you get when you invite legendary musician Carlos Santana to sup with noted chef Roberto Santibañez?
Maria Maria Restaurant, which opened in the Tempe Marketplace on Monday, serving dinner only. It will begin offering lunch service April 7.
This is the venture's second location. The first opened last April in Walnut Creek, Calif. It is a partnership of Santana, Santibañez and the Walnut Creek-based Dudum Sports & Entertainment Corp., which developed Joe DiMaggio's Italian Chophouse in San Francisco and other celebrity-centered eateries.
What to expect? Global ambience and style from the Grammy Award-winning Santana, and world-class Mexican cuisine from Santibañez. The menu includes soft duck tacos, chicken and mole tortilla casserole, beef tenderloin and chorizo Alambre, and mixed wild mushroom fajitas. Entrees run $14-$21.
Santibañez's résumé includes a longtime stint as culinary director for Rosa Mexicano restaurants in New York.
Maria Maria is in the Tempe Marketplace next to Barnes & Noble, 2000 E. Rio Salado Parkway. For reservations, call 1-480-449-3663.
Cathalena E. Burch Mona's grand opening
Mona's Danish Bakery is officially celebrating its grand opening at its new Foothills location at 4777 E. Sunrise Drive .
Owner Steve Hashemi says patrons can enjoy pastry samples and the music of pianist Don Knight from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Hashemi said he wanted a way to show appreciation to its customers. Mona's moved from the Northwest Side and reopened in late January.
Inger Sandal Ohmigod, they closed Kenny's . . .
Kenny's Mexican Restaurant, which took over the former home of Sultan Palace at 345 W. Drachman St., is no more.
The restaurant had the misfortune of opening just as the city went to work reconfiguring (and simplifying) the crazy intersection of North Oracle Road, West Drachman and North Main Avenue.
