When it comes to wearing fragrance, today's thoroughly modern woman might want to take cues from her grandmother.
In Grandma's day — and the decades before — a woman's daily toilette likely included scented bath oil and body lotion followed by a dusting of matching bath powder.
If she was dressing to go out, she next did her makeup, then her hair, and, finally, before donning her dress, she dabbed on a matching-scent perfume. A little behind the ears, at the base of the neck, a bit on the wrists and possibly behind the knees.
And "that," says Ana Anderson, account executive for Dior Cosmetics in Arizona and New Mexico, "is the best way to wear fragrance. It is called layering."
Anderson, who was born in Croatia and lives in Scottsdale, comes to Tucson regularly to consult with stores that carry Dior products.
Layering "allows you to always smell elegant," Anderson said.
We offer some suggestions for scents to consider making your own, along with hints for wearing them.
