One of two men arrested in a double homicide is a former middle school teacher who was accused of having a sexual affair with a 13-year-old student.
Netzahualcoyotl G. Ramos, 34, was acquitted on six counts of sexual conduct with a minor last September but is now being held on a $1 million bond after being identified as a shooter in a case that left Francisco "Harvey" Gonzales and Manuel Alcarez dead on Jan. 29.
Ramos and Vincent A. Valenzuela, 21, were arrested on first-degree-murder charges and were identified as the shooters in an incident that began as a drug deal involving crack cocaine and marijuana, court documents show.
Valenzuela was arrested Friday after being identified by a surviving victim, according to court documents released Wednesday. He admitted shooting Alcarez, 19, and said that he saw Ramos shoot both the victims.
The Tucson Police Department does have statements about the shooting, but it's waiting for results from forensic and ballistic tests to determine who shot each of the victims, said Sgt. Mark Robinson, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.
Police found Gonzales, 27, and Alcarez dead in a Southwest Side home in the 800 block of West Calle Colado after receiving reports of gunfire.
The next day, Andre Dewayne Mays, 22, was arrested. He admitted being involved in the deal and accompanying the shooters, court documents say.
All three are facing charges of first-degree murder, and each is being held on $1 million bond.
Ramos was accused of having a six-month sexual affair with a student while he was a teacher at Challenger Middle School.
The girl told authorities they had sex about a dozen times between January and June 2004, but the dates that she gave for certain events didn't match up with Ramos' account of where he was at those times, according to Arizona Daily Star archives.
Court records also indicate that Ramos was acquitted on an assault charge in 2001.
He declined an interview with the Arizona Daily Star on Wednesday.
Mays has been arrested in the past on charges of assault, disorderly conduct, weapons misconduct, forgery, shoplifting, and marijuana and drug paraphernalia possession, according to online court records.
Online court records did not reveal a criminal history for Valenzuela.
