A wildfire near Bisbee that prompted evacuations and for a time threatened homes and commercial buildings was human-caused, officials said Friday.
The Moon Canyon Fire, which by Friday evening had burned about 750 acres, was 10 percent contained,
Authorities hope to have it fully contained by 6:30 this evening, said Heidi Schewel, a fire spokeswoman.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the wildfire began as a man was burning something in his backyard without a permit Thursday morning around 10:45, said Bisbee Fire Chief Jack Earnest.
On Thursday night, officials said 130 residents had been evacuated as a precaution, but Schewel said Friday night that only about 30 had been evacuated.
Power was shut off to residents because a power line was being threatened, but electricity will be restored this morning and those residents can return home, she said.
Hundreds of homes, commercial buildings and outbuildings that were once threatened were no longer, Schewel said.
Six 20-person crews fought the blaze Friday with the help of 10 fire engines, three single-engine air tankers that were dropping fire retardant and a helicopter that was dropping water, Schewel said.
No injuries were reported, and no structures were lost.
