Art and mimosas — is there a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon?
Five galleries on Gallery Row at El Cortijo will serve mimosas to those who are 21 and older while showcasing their art for everyone.
"The whole idea of this is to reintroduce people to Gallery Row," said Vicki Schwager, co-owner of Details Art and Design. "It gives people a little excuse to visit a gallery."
In addition to the mimosas (Vintabla is donating the champagne), some of the galleries will serve pastries, chocolates and other hors d'oeuvres.
"We wanted to create a little excitement on Sundays," Schwager said.
This is the second Mimosa Sunday so far, and the galleries plan to host one monthly. Here's what to expect at each gallery
• Details Art and Design (577-1995): The gallery focuses on three-dimensional art using such items as paper, glass, leather or metal to create contemporary, functional art. That could be art furniture, such as a colorful dining room chair using vintage auto upholstery, or interesting lighting. Even some of the jewelry uses resin, wood or paper. Pieces range from $10 to $5,000.
• Madaras Gallery (615-3001): Color bombards you when entering Diana Madaras' gallery.
"Her gallery makes you feel good, the images are so vivid," said Linda Grissom, who works at the gallery. "You get a good sense of the Southwest."
• The Max Gallery (529-7349): A couple of months ago, owner Max Mikesell moved to a first-floor location from his original spot next to the former Soleil restaurant. His gallery features an array of jewelry, pottery and paintings. An opening reception for oil painters Kenny McKenna, Bill Moomey and Mark Daniels will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday.
From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, sculptor and gemologist Helen Serras-Herman will exhibit her "wearable sculpture" collection called "Passion for Opals."
• Mountain Shadow Gallery (577-6301): You'll find artists from Arizona, Canada, Argentina and Mexico displaying contemporary sculpture, glass and jewelry.
• Wilde Meyer Gallery (615-5222): This gallery has an eclectic mix of contemporary pieces and Asian furniture.
Collectors will find paintings and prints by Linda Carter Holman, landscapes by Barbara Gurwitz, figurative paintings by Sherri Belassen and Monika Rossa and sculptures by Jim Budish. Innovative interpretations of cowboys and American Indians by Thom Ross and Ka Fisher will also be shown.
