The chief executive of an electric cooperative that serves 40,000 customers in Southern Arizona is leaving his job for a position in Texas.

Mark W. Schwirtz, the CEO of Trico Electric Cooperative, has been named CEO of Golden Spread Electric Cooperative, a generation and transmission cooperative in Amarillo, Texas, according to a news release.

Schwirtz has been at Trico since 2006. The co-op's headquarters are at 8600 W. Tangerine Road, and it has customers in northwest Tucson, Marana, Corona de Tucson, Sahuarita, Green Valley, Three Points and Arivaca.

Trico said its board of directors has begun a search for a new CEO with hopes to have a replacement in the next four to six months.
