Raytheon Missile systems and the University of Arizona, Phoenix Mars Mission were awarded with the Governor’s Celebration of Innovation Award Thursday.

Raytheon was recognized for its work with other institutions to develop intellectual property and associated patents. For example, Raytheon teamed with The University of Arizona and Carnegie Mellon University to design, build, fly and operate a robotic lunar lander.

The UA, Phoenix Mars Mission was awarded in the category of academia for being the first mission to explore the northern polar region of Mars and the first NASA led by a public university.
