The state Department of Insurance ordered Cigna Healthcare of Arizona Inc. and subsidiary Connecticut General Life Insurance Co. to pay a combined civil penalty of $230,000 for violations of rules on timely payment of healthcare providers and handling of consumer healthcare appeals.
In consent orders covering actions from 2004 through June 2005, the agency found that Cigna and Connecticut General failed to pay proper interest on some late claim payments and failed to request information needed to make some claims payable.
The regulators also cited both insurers for failure to inform members in some appeals.
