Thirty-eight Tucson-area businesses have been named finalists for the 2008 Wells Fargo Copper Cactus Awards.
The awards program — billed as the region's oldest and largest small-business recognition event — is in its 11th year.
Five finalists also were announced for Tucson Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce's Small Business Leader of the Year Award.
Wells Fargo received 535 nominations this year, Larry Finuf, regional president for Wells Fargo in Southern Arizona, said in a statement. The awards will be announced Oct. 2 at the Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa.
The event is open to the public, and tickets can be purchased at www.coppercactus awards.com.
Winners are honored in three categories: Business Growth, Community Service and Best Place to Work. To qualify, a business must have 250 or fewer employees and be locally owned and operated, profitable and in operation more than two years.
