Solar panels coming to Gatorade plant

Tucson, Arizona | Published: 07.09.2008
Gatorade Co. said Tuesday that its Tolleson plant will generate solar electricity with help from the Salt River Project, one of the Phoenix area's utilities.
The photovoltaic system, which will be installed on the plant's roof, will generate about 500 kilowatts of electricity. That's enough to power 50 homes for a year, the company said, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 491 metric tons per year. Millions of Gatorade bottles are manufactured at the site, about 10 miles west of Phoenix.
