Attorney General Terry Goddard on Friday announced a $25,000 civil-rights settlement with the Pima County Community College District.
The agreement resolves a 2006 lawsuit alleging that the college violated the Arizonans with Disabilities Act by refusing to provide Stacy Duvall, a deaf student, with sign language interpreters with whom she could effectively communicate.
Under the settlement, the district also agreed, among other things, to hire more qualified interpreters, increase rates paid to contract interpreters and adopt rules to ensure deaf students receive needed interpreter services.
