Five people suffered critical injuries early Saturday in the rollover crash of a pickup carrying more than 20 illegal immigrants on the Tohono O'odham Reservation west of Tucson, tribal police said.
The crash occurred about 4:45 a.m. when the pickup hit a cow on Route 34 near the village of Vaya Chin, said Tohono O'odham Police Chief Joseph Delgado.
Two of the critically injured were flown by helicopter to a Tucson hospital and three to hospitals in Phoenix. The others riding in the truck suffered minor injuries, he said.
No identities of the injured have been released. An investigation is pending, Delgado said.
