Cinema La Placita started its fifth season Thursday and will continue to show movies through October.
The movies are shown outdoors on the plaza at the restaurant and office complex at the southwest corner of Broadway and Church Avenue Downtown.
"Nighttime in Tucson in the summertime is even better than bearable; it's downright pleasant, and the setting is gorgeous," said Erika O'Dowd, the program director.
"It's just got this very public, very urban kind of feel."
Several of the restaurants in La Placita will be open for the weekly event, she said.
The classic movies are free, and so is parking at the Stone Avenue garage across from the complex, although viewers are asked to make a $3 donation at the popcorn table.
Participants can bring their own blankets or chairs, or use those provided.
The movies start at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays. The schedule for the rest of the month is:
° May 13: "Mildred Pierce," starring Joan Crawford.
° May 20: "All the President's Men," starring Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford.
° May 27: "Three Strangers," starring Sydney Greenstreet, Geraldine Fitzgerald and Peter Lorre.
