PRAGUE, Czech Republic - Edmonton Oilers goalie Ty Conklin posted a shutout in a penalty shootout, and Andy Roach's goal put the United States in the World Hockey Championships semifinals with an upset of the Czech Republic on Wednesday.
Roach gave the Americans a 1-0 shootout win after the teams tied 2-2 through regulation and overtime.
In the shootout, the first four shooters for each team missed. Then Roach, a defenseman who plays in the German league, made a left-to-right fake in front of Nashville Predators goalie Tomas Vokoun and stuffed the puck into the open net.
After Roach scored, Jiri Dopita, who used to play for the Philadelphia Flyers, shot wide.

Arizona teams to play in NCAAs
The UA men's and women's tennis teams were both selected Wednesday for the NCAA championships.
The No. 20-ranked men will be seeded second for the first two rounds and play No. 48 Florida State in the first round in Gainesville, Fla., on May 15.
For the No. 41 women, the Wildcats will face No. 21 Indiana on May 14 in Los Angeles.
Dianne Hollands was named to the Pac-10 first team on Wednesday.

Curry signs with Oklahoma State
STILLWATER, Okla. - JamesOn Curry, the leading scorer in North Carolina high school basketball history who pleaded guilty to six felony drug counts last month, signed a letter of intent Wednesday to play for Oklahoma State.
The 6-foot-3-inch guard scored 3,307 points in his four-year career in high school. He originally signed to play at North Carolina, but his scholarship offer was rescinded two days after he pleaded guilty to the drug charges.
° Former Oklahoma State assistant Glynn Cyprien was introduced Wednesday as the new head coach at Louisiana-Lafayette.

Trio selected for Hall of Fame
CARSON, Calif. - Michelle Akers, Paul Caligiuri and Eric Wynalda were chosen Wednesday for induction into the U.S. Soccer Hall of Fame.
The trio will be inducted at Oneonta, N.Y., on Oct. 9.
Akers, the third woman selected for the hall, had both goals for the United States when it won the Women's World Cup in 1991.
Caligiuri and Wynalda, both national team stars, will be the first former MLS players to be inducted.
Caligiuri put the United States into the men's World Cup for the first time in 40 years when he scored in a qualifying match against Trinidad and Tobago in 1989.
Wynalda had 34 goals to finish his national team career as the top U.S. scorer.
