A man wanted on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder in Douglas was arrested when he tried to enter the United States from Mexico Monday night, federal authorities said Tuesday.
Federal agents from U.S. Customs and Border Protection said they arrested 41-year-old Esgard Ysea at 9:20 p.m. at the port of entry in Douglas. Officials say Ysea was trying to drive into the United States.
Ysea was questioned and then arrested on the warrant and taken into custody by the Douglas Police Department. No further information about the attempted-murder case was immediately available Tuesday.
Ysea was released from state prison in Arizona in November 2004, where he'd been serving time for a manslaughter conviction in Cochise County since 1986.
In another arrest at the Douglas port of entry, federal officials said they arrested a husband and wife from Chihuahua who were discovered smuggling more than 127 pounds of marijuana into the United States on Christmas Eve.
The marijuana was hidden inside compartments built into a 1994 GMC Sierra pickup.
