Innovation awards bestowed by UA

The founder of the University of Arizona's nationally ranked management information systems department, a UA student researcher and a former UA president were recipients of the university's annual innovation awards on Tuesday.
Jay F. Nunamaker Jr., a Regents Professor and director of the Center for Management of Information at the University of Arizona, was awarded a Technology Innovation Award as part of the UA's Innovation Day.
Brian Miller, a doctoral student in the UA's College of Optical Sciences, was honored with an innovation award for his research in medical-imaging technology.
Former university President Henry Koffler received a lifetime achievement award. The UA event organizers cited, among other things, Koffler's advances in research at the UA, as well as the tripling of external research funding — from $60 million to $192 million — during his tenure.
