Soroptimist seeks grant applications
Up to $10,000 in grants will be given out by a Soroptimist International of Desert Tucson to non-profit programs that benefit women and girls, a spokeswoman said.
Soroptimist International is non-profit supporting women in management, business and other professions, said Mary Elizabeth Pollard, a spokeswoman for the group.
Applications for the grants are due Jan. 4 and the money will be given out in February, Pollard said.
Charitable organizations across Southern Arizona are encouraged to apply, she said.
The grants will be given out in varying amounts determined by the applications themselves, Pollard said.
To be eligible, a charity must be a 501(c)(3) and receive less than 50 percent of its income from government funds, she said.
Only projects with gross annual incomes of less than $1 million will be considered, Pollard said.

V-Day Tucson 2008 scheduled Feb. 16
V-Day Tucson 2008, a production of Eve Ensler's Vagina Monologues, is coming back to Tucson at 7 p.m. Feb. 16 at the Fox Theatre, 17 W. Congress St. Tickets are $25. Organizers of the event need volunteers.
"We will also begin casting the roles for the performance soon," Lori Riegel said in a press release.
V-Day is a global movement to end violence against women and girls "and raises funds and awareness through benefit productions of Ensler's award-winning play," Riegel said.
The "V" in V-Day stands for "victory," "valentine" and "vagina."
Volunteers for these positions are needed: a volunteer coordinator, volunteers to sell merchandise, some to help with publicity and some to sell tickets.
