They discovered they had lots in commonTucson, Arizona | Published: 11.16.2008
Editor's note: This is another in the Star's new weekly series of "Tucson Love Stories." Each Sunday we'll give you a peek into an engaged or newly married local couple's relationship.
The couple: Tiffani Kellogg Miller, 29, and Marc Miller, 28, were married May 5 in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
Joining them for the celebration were their parents and his sister and brother-in-law.
A Tucsonan, she is an aesthetician, specializing in skin care, at Canyon Ranch. She also is enrolled in Pima Community College's nursing program.
He is originally from Moline, Ill., and is a technical sergeant in the Air Force stationed at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. He will graduate in December from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Prescott.
How they met: They met in June last year by chance. One of her friends was dating an Air Force guy, and one day, Tiffani asked, "Do you have any friends looking for a girl?"
Three weeks later, she got a phone call from her friend inviting her over to meet Marc.
"I was already in bed asleep," Tiffani recalls. "I told her to give him my e-mail address — we could start communicating that way."
They e-mailed for about a week, exchanged phone numbers and finally went to dinner on June 15.
That was the beginning, and they've been inseparable since.
"We went into it with open minds," and they knew from the start that they'd be friends.
"There was no awkwardness, even on that first date," she says. "We felt like we had known each other forever.
"We have lots in common: We like the same music, are both Type-A personalities, both active, both clean freaks, like to do things outdoors like gardening, like to be active — go walking, work out."
And they do it all together.
"There's not a lot we don't do together," she says. "We truly enjoy it."
The proposal: Tiffani had inherited a beautiful ring from her late grandmother; it was in her mom's keeping.
Marc knew about it and, unbeknownst to Tiffani, arranged to have it cleaned and also chose a wedding band "that went with it perfectly."
He took her out for a special dinner at The Melting Pot and there he proposed.
Tiffani was thrilled. She calls Marc "my hero," and says she always knew she "would be a good wife to a military man."
"I am trustworthy and independent," she says. "If he were to be gone for a long period of time, he could trust me, and I know that I would be OK."
For his part, Marc says, "I needed a wife who understands what being a military spouse is all about. Although she is new to it, Tiffani is the wife you dream of.
"I haven't had to deploy yet, and we haven't had to move yet. But I know when the day comes, she will be there for me. I'm looking forward to our future together."
Good omens: Both Tiffani and Marc were married before, and both have children — a daughter and son for her; a son for him.
Her daughter, Savanna, is 9 and her son, Kayden, is 6.
His son recently turned 7 and is named Braden.
Kayden and Braden — close names and already close friends, Tiffani says.
She's anticipating a big family Christmas celebration this year. Her parents live in Tucson, and "all the kids will be with us."
