Shopping at Old Navy for an emergency outfit — suddenly, I hated everything in my closet and needed something new and relatively inexpensive — I was blinded by sparkles: shiny sequined tank tops and little black dresses.

For women, sequins add a certain something to an otherwise boring outfit. Pair a sequined top with jeans and you'll look ready for a day — do not make the mistake of thinking sequins are only for night — or evening out on the town.

If you have the figure for one, a sequined mini-dress will turn heads. In a good way. (Special note to men: Sequins will make you look like Elton John or, if you are older, Liberace; only you can decide if that's a good thing.)
