● The stage at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church is going to be crowded Sunday when the Texas Girls' Choir, the Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus and the Tucson Girls' Chorus perform a joint concert.
Each group will perform separately before joining together for the finale.
The Fort Worth-based Texas ensemble, formed in 1962, is stopping in Tucson as part of its Southwest tour. The group, directed by Debi Weir, will perform a variety of music.
Julian Ackerley will direct the boys chorus, and Marcela Molina will lead the girls.
Admission to the concert, which begins at 4 p.m. , is free. Our Savior's is located at 1200 N. Campbell Ave., a block north of Speedway.
● UApresents has already booked a replacement for its recently canceled Roseanne Cash show.
Booker T. and the MGs, the instrumental soul band led by organist Booker T. Jones, will be filling in April 15 at Centennial Hall.
Jones was a Stax staple through the 1960s and '70s, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee with a string of hits including "Green Onions" and "Hip Hug-Her."
He will be joined by guitarist Steve Cropper and bassist Donald "Duck" Dunn, founding members who also served as members of the original Blues Brothers band.
Cash announced she was canceling her tour last week as she continues to recover from brain surgery.
Cash ticketholders can exchange them for Booker T. tickets (otherwise $20-$44) or for a full refund at 621-3341.
● In an ambitious undertaking, the combined choirs of First United Methodist Church and Desert Skies United Methodist Church will perform Mozart's "Requiem" on Thursday.
The performance at First United Methodist Church will celebrate Maundy Thursday, when Jesus celebrated the Last Supper with the Apostles.
"Requiem" is an ambitious choral piece that is rich with dark moods that underscore deep religious meanings. It also is musically and vocally compelling — a true test for choral ensembles.
A 20-piece orchestra that includes members of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra will accompany the choirs. Vocal soloists are tenor Dennis Tamblyn, alto Robin Rochlein, soprano Meray Boustani and bass Juan Aguirre.
The performance begins at 7 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Tucson, 915 E. Fourth St., across from the University of Arizona. Admission is free, but donations will be collected to benefit the Tucson Metropolitan Ministries Family Services. Details: 622-6481.
