At a glance, the rechargeable USBcell batteries from Moxia Energy look like typical rechargeable AAs. But use them and you'll wonder why somebody didn't come up with the idea sooner.
The AA batteries have a cap that pops off to reveal a USB connector.
From there, just plug them into any computer, keyboard or monitor to begin charging. There is no need for a cable.
If a USB connection is unavailable, the batteries can charge in a standard NiMH charger.
Right now, only AA batteries are available. The company says it is developing other formats, including C, D, 9V and cell-phone batteries.
The batteries come in packs of two for about $20 and should be charged before initial use. A full USB charge will take five hours.
A frame cut down to size
Digital photo frames have been a hit for some, but many have stayed away because of high prices.
Pandigital has now introduced a more affordable 6-inch digital photo frame.
The frame has many of the popular features found in the more expensive units: 128 megabytes of internal memory; a built-in memory card reader; and a USB connection.
With the frame, digital images are displayed on a bright, clear screen in slide-show and single-image modes.
Images can be stored in the internal memory or viewed with the 6-in-1 media reader. The reader supports all the common digital media used in current digital camera models.
Users also can download images directly from a digital camera via a USB connection.
Two interchangeable frames (black and cherry wood) are included. A remote control is included.
Audio and video can also be replayed on the frame with the built-in speakers.
The Pandigital frame is available at major retailers, with a suggested retail price of $114.99.
