The Canyon del Oro boys golf team finished second in the 17-team Yuma Criminals Classic on Saturday at Mesa del Sol Golf Club.
CDO junior Ryan Klump placed fourth individually with a 27-hole score of 9-over-par 117 in the two-day event. Klump had the best score among Southern Arizona golfers.
Noah Cook of Gilbert Highland earned medalist honors with a 108 and led the Hawks to the team title.
Sierra Vista Buena placed fourth in the team standings, and Tucson tied for seventh.
CDO had three golfers finish in the top 15, including Adam Laperriere in a tie for ninth (122) and Gentry Hicks in a tie for 11th (123).
"This was our first tournament of the year, so it was very important to start well," Dorados coach John Farbarik said.
"It's a good sign when we feel like we didn't play all that well but we still came in second."

St. Gregory avenged its loss in last fall's Class 1A-3A fall soccer state championship by beating Benson 3-2 Saturday in the semifinals of the Desert Classic in Phoenix.
Bennett Sawyer scored a pair of goals for St. Gregory, including the game-winner in the 57th minute of the 60-minute match. The Hawks limited Benson to three shots on goal.
St. Gregory could not sustain its success in the finals, losing 6-0 to Sedona Red Rock.

Palo Verde quarterback Ernesto Espinoza is recovering well after suffering a neck strain in a home game against Marana on Friday.
Espinoza's injury occurred with 1:29 left in the fourth quarter of Marana's 23-14 victory. He lay on the field for about 25 minutes before being taken away by ambulance. Palo Verde coach Todd Mayfield said Espinoza was released from a hospital at 1:30 a.m. Saturday and complained of soreness.
"Ernesto is doing fine," Mayfield said. "We expect him to be back some time in the next week or two."
