The 110 Degrees: Tucson's Youth Tell Tucson's Stories magazine is the annual product of the eight-month VOICES' 110 Degrees After School Magazine Project.
VOICES professionals mentor the project youth in research, interviewing, writing, and photography so they can tell their personal and community stories. The youth are paid a stipend and receive three college credits in writing from Pima Community College.
Through our 110 Degrees Project efforts, VOICES seeks to strengthen the artistic, emotional, intellectual, civic, and professional skills of local low-income youth. By giving consistent and nurturing attention in these areas, young people are much more likely to become healthy, emotionally-resilient adults who are economically independent and active in the community. We strive to encourage the teenagers in our project to become caring, creative, and contributing adults.
Any opinions expressed in 110 Degrees are those of individual youth staff writers or the people they've interviewed. They do not necessarily reflect the opinions of VOICES, its staff, its board of directors or the Arizona Daily Star.
110 Degrees is a project of Voices: Community Stories Past and Present Inc., a Tucson-based nonprofit organization that works to document community stories and inspire individuals to explore their own stories and their connections to their communities.
