Spam Filters

Some e-mail programs have the ability to "filter" messages. "Filtering" means that the e-mail program checks certain properties of messages and can change where the message gets stored, it's status, etc.

One of the most common uses for filters is to keep unsolicited commercial e-mail (or "spam") from apprearing in your mailbox. Filters can be used to redirect the mail to other folders or to the trash.

Below are e-mail programs which have filtering capabilities and StarNet has developed a set of filters to help cut down on the amount of spam appearing in you Inbox.

Note: Outlook Express has filtering ability. However, it isn't flexible enough to be useful in creating general set of filters like the other programs.

Netscape Communicator
These instructions only work for Netscape Communicator 4.0 or later. Netscape Navigator does not have filtering ability. If you are using Navigator, you will need to get Communicator either from StarNet's Getting an Updated Netscape or from Netscape's site.

Eudora (3.0 and above)

These instructions only work for Eudora 3.0 and above. Previous versions of Eudora did not have filtering ability. You can get an updated version of the program from Eudora's web site.
